All equipment that transports water will be subject to damage over time when used with hard water.
The following criteria and influencing factors are crucial for ensuring operation is seamless over the long-term:
Lime content in the water,
Temperature within the equipment (in this case: exposure to the sun),
Frequency of application (in this case: how often the equipment dries out) and
Equipment technology.
Equipment technology: All porous equipment (equipment where the pores are opened by the incoming water pressure and where the pores close after each application) is particularly at risk, as the limescale deposits can clog the pores and because products of this kind can rarely be cleaned. Therefore despite being very successful in other ways, the GARDENA Soaker Hoses and GARDENA Hose Sprinklers, for example, are not recommended for use with very hard water purely due to the pore technology.
The GARDENA Above Ground and Below Ground Drip Irrigation Lines as well as the complete GARDENA Micro-Drip-System are considerably more resistant, at least where water is not extremely hard.
Experience has shown that preventive or cleaning measures such as insertion in acetic acid are not effective and therefore not recommended.
