The 19040 sensor has a modified measuring principle that allows faster and more precise measurement of soil moisture.
There are two electrodes along the measuring tip, between which the capacitance is measured. In this way, the electrodes are in direct contact with the surrounding subsoil and measure the soil moisture where it is important, e.g. deeper in the lawn or less deep in a plant pot.
In combination with the automatic soil type detection, a reliable soil moisture value is determined.
Automatic self-calibration takes place after the sensor has been installed in the soil. In the first 8 hours, the sensor searches for a trigger point and then selects a suitable measurement model. Depending on the type of soil, this process can take up to 24 hours. If the sensor is removed from the soil for whatever reason (battery change, relocation.....), the calibration/soil type detection must be carried out again via the GARDENA smart app.
